If inspected under a microscope, a dull surface finish will appear rough and uneven, so most polishing and waxing processes are designed to smooth out the roughness and make the surface shiny.
A rough surface causes incoming light to ‘scatter’ and reflect in a random, non-parallel way (diffuse reflection) so the surface appears blurred, washed-out and just plain dull. By contrast, a flat, smooth surface reflects light in an even, parallel form – just like a mirror (specular reflection) which creates a shiny-looking surface finish.
Tribos creates a smoother protective surface so the light is reflected evenly giving an incredibly high gloss finish.
In addition the Tribos coating contains specially developed titanium oxide crystals (not found in the waxes and non-reactive silicone compounds of other treatments) which ensure genuine resistance to damaging UV light.
How Does Tribos® Marine Paint Protection work?
Tribos® Marine Paint Protection is a polymer designed specifically for painted surfaces. It acts like a protective coating that ensures a water and oil-repellent surface that ‘locks out’ damaging water and salt and is very easy to clean.
The Tribos® Marine Paint Protection formula contains amino functional silicones and silicone resins that chemically bond to the paint surface. They then cross-link together, chemically, over 2-24 hours to form a tough barrier that repels water and oils. Silicone waxes are also included in the formulation to fill minor surface scratches or cavities and prevent water entering — or staying on the surface of the painted coating.
Specialist ingredients developed with industry leading specialists mean Tribos® Marine Paint Protection is the state-of-the-art in defence from the UV light in solar radiation. These expensive UV protectors absorb the energy of the UV light and re-emit that energy as harmless heat. They are miscible with the silicone polymer layer, so the entire Tribos car protection coating becomes strongly anchored to the painted surface, ensuring genuine longevity.
Tribos® Marine Paint Protection’s dual features of water repellency and UV protection allow the finish to remain glossy for significantly longer periods of time than has ever been possible before, while also preventing the fading, ‘chalking’ and general degradation usually caused by UV light.
How is Tribos® Marine Paint Protection applied?
As with all marine paint protection products application is everything. To take full advantage of the phenomenal performance of Tribos Marine Paint Protection, we have paid as much attention to developing the vital preparation and application techniques as we have to the formulation itself. Put simply, one cannot work properly without the other.
Tribos® Marine Paint Protection application is normally a two-stage process on new or undamaged car surfaces, or it may require three-stages if serious preparation work is required.
STEP ONE
Using a combination of our three grades of polishing compounds, we remove existing surface finishes and treatments (any waxes, ols, teflon etc.) plus the usual array of scratches, marks and unsightly results of general weathering. If the paint is warn or dull looking we can rejuvenate the surface at this stage.
STEP TWO
The application of our zero swirl product, similar to those used for polishing precious metals, is assisted by our purpose-manufactured orbital polishers, the result being and ultra-smooth, clean surface required prior to the application of Tribos® Marine Paint Protection.
STEP THREE
The Tribos® marine protective coating is gently and expertly applied – once again using our unique orbital polishers. The finish then cures over a 2-24 hour period, during this time all the individual polymers cross-link together and anchor themselves to the surface.
RESULT
A satin smooth finish with a flexible, impenetrable and transparent Marine Paint Protection– and a long-lasting gloss finish that is second to none
How does Tribos® Marine Paint Protection effect the look of my paint
‘Gloss’ can mean different things to different people and is not something we at Tribos are ever subjective about. Scientific measurement is the only truly reliable method of assessing surface condition in a wholly objective way, so we use specialist gloss metering instruments, both in product development and during process quality control.
Gloss is measured in gu (gloss units) and is specified in ISO 2813. Typically, a dull surface sanded with 1200 grit paper is around 45 gu, a mid-gloss, mildly weathered surface 70 gu – and glossy new white paint around 80 gu. For comparison, a mirror might have a gloss of 750 gu.
Licensed Tribos applicators are therefore fully trained to measure the amazing Tribos gloss scientifically, both before and after treatment.
All our development and quality control instruments are calibrated and conform to ISO 2813
