Why Choose Tribos® Gelcoat Protection?

Designed specifically for epoxy and polyester gelcoats, to give a long-lasting, durable shine, provide exceptional water repellence and reduce the many degrading effects of UV light penetration, such as fading, ‘chalking’ and yellowing.

The formula contains amino functional silicones and silicone resins that bind strongly to the surface. They then cross-link together, chemically over 2 hours to form a tough barrier that repels water and oils. Silicone waxes are also included in the formulation to fill any surface scratches or cavities and prevent water entering — or staying on the surface of the gelcoat.

To protect against the UV light in solar radiation, the Tribos gelcoat protection incorporates two special ingredients developed for us by industry leading specialists.

The first of these are very fine titanium oxide particles which reflect UV away from the surface like a mirror. As titanium oxide can cause yellowing in some plastics, they are encapsulated in AL203 — to keep them inert — and then treated with a silicone compound which enables them to anchor firmly to the gelcoat. This gives the surface the water repellence it needs to ensure protection over many wash-downs. The titanium oxide particles in Tribos are so small (200NM) that they become invisible when applied.

The second UV protector absorbs the energy of the UV light and re-emits it as heat, which is harmless to gelcoat. They are miscible with the silicone polymer layer, so the entire Tribos barrier becomes strongly anchored to the painted surface, ensuring genuine longevity.

These dual features of water repellence and UV protection allow the finish to remain glossy for significantly longer periods of time that has ever been possible before, while also preventing the fading, ‘chalking’ and general degradation usually caused by UV light.

  • Dirt comes off with a simple wash down
  • A fabulous, impressive and  ‘better-than-new’ finish that lasts and lasts
  • Immediate and obvious increase in pride of ownership and resale value.
  • In independent tests we have been found to offer an overall better gelcoat protection
  • Applied by manufacturers of new vehicles — and by dealers the world over.

How Does Tribos® Gelcoat Protection work?

Firstly the gelcoat surface must be detailed to make sure that the surface is totally clean. If the product is applied on top of dirt or any other contaminants, they will be sealed in and damage the efecacy of the protection.

All our products including our gelcoat protection are developed to deliver optimum performance on the surfaces that they protect.

How is Tribos® Gelcoat Protection Applied

As with all marine paint protection products application is everything. To take full advantage of the phenomenal performance of Tribos Marine Paint Protection, we have paid as much attention to developing the vital preparation and application techniques as we have to the formulation itself. Put simply, one cannot work properly without the other.

Tribos® Marine Paint Protection application is normally a two-stage process on new or undamaged car surfaces, or it may require three-stages if serious preparation work is required.

Using a combination of our three grades of polishing compounds, we remove existing surface finishes and treatments (any waxes, ols, teflon etc.) plus the usual array of scratches, marks and unsightly results of general weathering. If the paint is warn or dull looking we can rejuvenate the surface at this stage.

The application of our zero swirl product, similar to those used for polishing precious metals, is assisted by our purpose-manufactured orbital polishers, the result being and ultra-smooth, clean surface required prior to the application of Tribos® Marine Gelcoat Protection.

The Tribos® marine gelcoat protective coating is gently and expertly applied – once again using our unique orbital polishers. The finish then cures  over a 2-24 hour period, during this time all the individual polymers cross-link together and anchor themselves to the surface.

A satin smooth finish with a flexible,  impenetrable and transparent Marine gelcoat Protection– and a long-lasting gloss finish that is second to none.
